The Targa Florio was never just a race; it was an epic poem of dust, petrol and daring. Whilst other circuits such as Le Mans or Monza sought the perfection of speed, the Targa Florio challenged the drivers’ spirit and the resilience of the machines in a way that seems almost surreal today. Founded in 1906 by the visionary Vincenzo Florio, this race transformed the barren Madonie Mountains into an arena of giants. There were no run-off areas, no safety barriers and no mercy. 72 kilometres per lap on the Piccolo Circuito delle Madonie, peppered with over 800 bends that snaked their way through medieval villages, past precipices and across crumbling tarmac.
